Slathia for diversifying Handicrafts marketing strategy | Orders for on-line sale of Handicrafts | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 10: Minister for Industries and Commerce S S Slathia today called for diversifying the marketing strategy to give boost to handicrafts sales and exports. He urged for roping in Tour & Travel Industry for this purpose adding that services of registered Tourist Guides and accredited Travel and Tour Operators needs to be acquired to attract tourists for purchase of world famous Kashmiri Handicrafts. Speaking at the review meeting of Jammu & Kashmir Handicrafts (Sale & Export) Corporation Limited, here today, the Minister urged the need to create awareness among the tourists about the heritage value and intricate designs of Kashmiri Handicrafts and artefacts and called for devising an attractive special discount on package sale of selected handicrafts. He also called for formulating a comprehensive and realistic action plan to improve and broad base the working of the Handicrafts Corporation to make it self sustained. He directed the management of the Corporation to introduce on-line sale system of handicrafts and create a website of the Corporation to ensure interlinkage between various sale outlets across the Country. The Minister set a sales target of Rs 14 crore during the current year against Rs 10 crore last year. The Managing Director S A Tak informed the meeting that all the 19 branches of the Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation have been computerized. He said the Corporation, in order to showcase and promote the traditional handicrafts of the State held about 12 exhibitions/expose/trade fairs both in and outside the State. He informed that the famous show room of the Handicrafts Corporation at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi have been completed and its commissioning would facilitate the Corporation to bring more improvement in its sales and revenue generation. |
