GEJAC blames govt for pushing employees on path of agitation

EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 10: Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Action Committee (GEJAC) today blamed the government for pushing the employees on the path of agitation and ‘betraying’ them despite assurances that 6th Pay Commission arrears would be released, keeping in view the interests of the workers.
The committee today held a one day convention which was attended by representatives of nearly a dozen organisations to chalk out the strategy and review the arrangements for the June 28 ‘Srinagar Chalo’ march.
Speaking on the occasion, All Jammu, Kashmir Ladhak Teachers Federation president, Balwan Singh Jamwal said that government has miserably failed to form the policy for regularization of the Daily Rated Workers as per the agreement between the representatives of the workers and government on May 14, 2010.
“They have assured us that the report would be submitted within six months and the policy of ‘hire and fire’ for the temporary workers will be given good bye, but nothing has been done so far”, Singh said.
Members also lashed out at the Omar Abdullah led government for not issuing the order for the regularization of the contractual and Adhoc employees as committed by them in August 2009. “ A cabinet sub-committee constituted at that time has said that the order will be implemented within 15 day, but its implementation is nowhere in sight”, said Abdul Rashid, president J&K Custodian Employees Association.
During the one day meet workers again rejected the roadmap of the state government for the release of the arrears under the 6th Pay Commission and alleged that it is highly discriminatory particularly against the pensioners who need it the most.
“Administration is pushing us to wall and we have left with no option but to fight against the apathetic attitude of the administration”, said Feroz Ali Khan, president of State Motor Garages Employees Union.
Members expressed their resentment over the fact that while legislators have been given pay and perks hike, but the poor workers burdened by the rising prices in the recent past has been neglected.
GEJAC has further demanded that they will continue to fight for the enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years, Removal of pay anomalies of different cadre and implementation of the agreement made with the clerical cadre in 2008.
