Centre keen for early amendments in Waqfs Act-2010:Soz | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 10: Member Parliament and Chairman Joint Select Committee of Rajya Sabha on Waqf Board, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, has said central Government is making all out efforts for making early amendments in Wakfs Act 2010 for benefits of the community. Member Parliament Rashid Alvi, Administrator Auqaf Islamia, Jammu Raj Mohammad besides representatives of Shia Federation and JK Waqafs board present were on the occasion. Prof Soz said central Government has taken various initiatives to strengthen the existing infrastructure of the Waqf property across the State. He asked the authorities to remove encroachments from the land of Waqf and Auquaf properties adding that the places are meant for religious purposes. He asked the representatives of organization to submit their concrete suggestions within 10 days to the Select Committee so that the amendments in Waqfs Act-2010 could be brought after the proposal discussed in Parliament. He exhorted to take measures for recovery of such properties of Waqfs which have been unauthorizedly occupied or encroached upon or are in occupation of the person who have become the unauthorized occupant on account of the termination of the lease or after the expiry of the period of lease or is in dispute and shall hold and utilize the same subject to the provision of the Act.
