Niyas, VHP take serious exception to CM's statement on yatra date, resolve to start yatra on June 15 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 10: Taking serious exception to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's statement that Amarnath yatra will not be allowed before the official date June 29, Hindu organizations including Baba Amarnath yatri Niyas and VHP today said that they will not be cowed down by the Government's threatening and the yatra will leave as per the traditional date of Jesht Purnima falling on June 15. The Niyas and other Hindu organizations spearheading the ongoing movement also has turned down the offer of the administration and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) to pay a visit to cave to supervise the condition of two tracks from Baltal and Phalgam. The decision to supervise the tracks was taken in a meeting of the office bearers of various Hindu organizations including Niyas and VHP and the administration in Divisional Commissioner's Office here yesterday. In the meting the representatives of Niyas and other organizations had agreed to visit the holy cave to supervise the track. The names of two journalists had also been figured in the meeting who would accompany the team during the visit to holy cave. However this offer was totally rejected this morning in view of Abdullah's statement and both Niyas and VHP took serious exception of the same. To take the stock of the situation the VHP deputed its national spokesperson and senior leader Dr Surinder Jain to Jammu who soon after reaching here called a hurried press conference in which the decision of flagging off the first batch of yatra on June 14 from Jammu was announced. Jain, while taking serious exception to Abdullah's statement, said that since Puranic period yatra was taken from Jaisht Purnima and there will be no dilution in the yatra date. He questioned the Government's authenticity in interfering with yatra, and said as there can be no change in the dates of Eid or Christmas same way no change in the date of holy Amarnath yatra will be tolerated. It may be recalled that the VHP national secretary Khem Raj Sharma is already camping in Jammu and some leaders of organizations including the prominent saints will also reach here within two days to welcome the yatris reaching from other parts of the country here on June 13. With both parties the Shrine Board and Niyas supported by VHP and Bajrang Dal sticking to their respective stands, this year's yatra is also snowballing into a big controversy. The Government and Board is adamant to start yatra on June 29 on the plea that the tracks from Baltal and Pahalgam are covered with snow and can't be cleared before June 29. Turning down this argument the Hindu organizations said that the track could be cleared before that provided the Board takes the issue seriously. Surinder Jain also accused the Government of creating another controversy like 2008 on Amarnath and if the Board and Government continued on their rigid stand it will be repetition of land row type agitation once again and entire nation will join it. He said that the Niyas is resolved to flag off the first batch of yatra on June 14 from Jammu and no one can stop it from that. If Government tries to create hurdles in the way of yatra this will have serious repercussions he added. Meanwhile BJP has also announced its full support to Niyas and said that Government has no right in interfering in the religious matters of any community. With both parties taking a rigid stand the Board and Niyas is ready for a major show down on June 14. |
