DODA, June 11: A conference of newly elected Sarpanches, from Doda constituency, was held at Congress Party Head Quarters Doda.
Sixty six out of total eighty newly elected Sarpanches from Doda constituency were present in the conference.
Addressing the gathering, Abdul Majid Wani MLA Doda said that in recently concluded Panchayat elections in four blocks of Doda constituency, the Congress Party has maintained an enviable lead.
Though these Panchayat elections were conducted on non-party basis, yet most of the Congress Party workers and sympathizers were comfortably elected to the posts of Sarpanches and Panches.
A resolution was passed during the conference, wherein all the Sarpanches have requested Sonia Gandhi President of All India Congress Committee to give representation to Doda district by induction of Abdul Majid Wani MLA Doda in the state cabinet.
Due to non representation of Doda district in the state cabinet, the future of Doda district is at stake, says the Sarpanches.
Speaking at the functions, the newly elected Sarpanches appreciated keen interests taken by MLA Doda in overall growth and development of Doda constituency.
During 2002 J&K Legislative Assembly Elections, Abdul Majid Wani, a renowned social worker from Doda district, won for the first time from Doda Assembly Constituency.
These Panchayat Elections have also made it clear that the public of the Doda supported MLA Doda because of his hard work and the sincere approach.
