Fake 'abortion racket' busted in Srinagar: Police | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 11: Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a fake 'abortion racket', running in the city centre here from last 15-years. “Acting on complaints, police busted the racket being carried in a small room with the name "Jhelum Diagnostic center" at Harisingh High Street”, Station House officer Sheergari told INB News. "The fake abortion racket was run in a small little room where women, girls, even teenage, were brought from various parts of the Kashmir and they were illegally aborted there," he said. "Not only that, the concerned person of the diagnostic center was also conducting Tubal ligation and other major surgeries without having proper instrument and hygiene." He identified the owner of center as Ghulam Nabi and said that further investigations were going with regard to the case. Police has filed an FIR 41/2011 under section 312, 315, 419, 420 RPC against the accused. Meanwhile, he said, police has also arrested owner of bakery and confectionary shop (Shalimar Bakery) following seizure of infected baked goods from his shop. "Some packets of food without carrying batch number, manufacturing date or expiry were also recovered from the shop," he said. He said that two FIRs (37/2011, 57/2011) have been registered against the owner of the shop under 3/7 essential commodities act.
