MD, WDC distributes cheques worth Rs. 20 lakh

SRINAGAR, JUNE 10- Managing Director, J&K State Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC) Dr. Naheed Soz today distributed Cheques worth Rs. 20 lakhs among the beneficiaries of district Srinagar under NMDFC, NBCFDC, NHFDC and ESW Schemes of the Corporation at an awareness camp organized to aware about the schemes being run by the corporation and their socio-legal rights here today. Prominent among the beneficiaries include Ms. Khair-un-Nisa of Baghi Mehtab and Miss. Jozia Ali of Zakura, who received applause for their keen interest in setting their Units and extending the benefits of various schemes of WDC to other artisans of the district.
Dr. Soz said the corporation is working for the upliftment of socially and economically marginalized women by imparting trainings for skill development and extending loans facilities for establishment of self income generating units and market support, adding that Rs. 50 crore have been disbursed as loan among beneficiaries for establishing self income generating units in the state.
The Managing Director gave brief resume of the schemes of the corporation and asked the women folk to come forward and avail the benefits of the schemes helping to improve their socio-economic conditions. She said the Corporation has conducted 425 awareness camps in various districts of the state and trained 19,500 beneficiaries under Vocational and skill up-gradation training programs.
Dr. Soz said the corporation also provides marketing support to the beneficiaries for the sale of products manufactured in their units by conducting exhibitions in and outside the state. In view of ban on polythene bags, the corporation is promoting production of Jute bags for which Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Katra (SMVDSB) has giant demand, she added.
Managing Director also emphasized on various social evils including female foeticide in the society.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Mukhtiar Ahmad, Deputy Mayor Mr.Sajad Ahmad, Officers/officials of WDC and the prominent citizens were also present on the occasion. No.PR/DI/2011/1812/desk/pk//
