| What does the Congress leaders and functionaries of the UPA Govt in the centre want to convey and establish by repeatedly asserting that Baba Ram Dev’s fast and agitation are backed by RSS and is aimed at promoting the agenda of the saffron outfit. Apparently Baba Ram Dev’s fight against corruption, black money and stashing of money by Indians in foreign banks, demanding to declare it as the national wealth to take steps to bring the same back to country, confiscate and utilise
for public welfare.
By over emphasising the Baba’s agitation sponsored to further the BJP agenda, the UPA Govt on the one hand, are giving credit to the saffron outfit for there crusade against corruption, while are closing options for Baba Ram Dev and pursuing him to the RSS fold, to the ultimate
political advantage of BJP.
Imagine, if the mass following of Yoga Guru, Ram Dev in the length and breadth of country and the wide network of RSS in various parts really join hands for a united fight against the Congress, the later will
find itself on back foot to fight this formidable combination. That Baba Ram Dev and RSS are ideologically akin is a reality. Watching Yoga Guru’s daily Yoga teachings, followed by his spiritual
cum patriotic discourse at his Haridawar Ashrams and at other places in the country, where he has been travelling extensively and intensively to convey his message and setup units if his Patanjali
Yoga Peeth and Bharat Swabhiman trust, one gets the feeling of witnessing RSS training camp or even daily Shakhas. The atmosphere is almost identical, with emphasis on physical fitness through exercise
and core nationalism and patriotism, based on ancient Hindu cultural moorings. The only difference is that while in RSS camps strict discipline, bordering on regimentation is observed, in Ram Dev’s
gatherings the atmosphere is relaxed. The strict observed in RSS daily Shakhas and camps are missing in Ram Dev’s gathering. The other difference is that while Baba Ram Dev like RSS lays stress
on revival of the glory of “Bharat Mata” he dose not talk of Hindutav or even Hinduism, as does RSS on the contrary, Ram Dev describes his movement as secular in character, invariably pointing out the presence of Muslims and even Christians in his programmes. Nevertheless his
movement is as much base on ancient Hindu Ethos as his RSS. Spiritualism as per Hindu scriptures and faith, strong patriotism preached by Ram Dev is identical to RSS preaching, but that of the former is all inclusive and comprehensive. Moreover, while RSS discourses are in Sanskritised Hindi, Ram Dev delivers his sermons in simple language, that can be understood by a common person. Further
RSS Shakhas and camps are exclusively meant for males, though lately separately. Samatis are held for females, in Ram Dev’s gatherings males and females are equal participants this difference perhaps, has
been due to the variation in the timings of the foundation of two movements. While RSS was founded about as decade before the independence and partition of the country, when Hindu Muslim was at
its height, due to the overwhelming support of the later to partition of the country, wiz homeland for Muslims in united India, ultimately leading to the creations of Pakistan, comprising Muslims majority
areas and the partition bringing in its train mass exodus of Hindus from parts that become Pakistan and dissevers, with blood shed on both sides and other sufferings undergone by the two communities,
particularly from those parts, from were mass exodus took place. Baba Ram Dev’s movement for revival of the glory of Bharat, on the other, hand came into being after the scars of partition and communal riots
have almost been held, with passage of over six decades.
In nut shell Baba Ram Dev’s movement can be describe as a modern version of RSS ideology and line of action. After six decades of the barbaric happenings in the sub-continent, which followed the mutual
distrust the heated between the two communities, the ultra nationalist and patriotic RSS should have left for behind the black periods in countries history the changed its priorities and main
thrust of its concept of nationalism. Its attitude towards Muslims left in India should have undergone a change. But it did not happen, for reasons over which there is a controversy Baba Ram Dev’s
interpretation of Indian nationalism, which is based on ancient Hindu moorings and ethos has, today, much wider appeal and acceptability. Than that of the RSS which is still clinging to what may be no more
relevant.
Although there is no direct link between Baba Ram Dev and RSS and least the BJP, a former BJP national General Secretary, Govinda Acharya, who had left the party over a decade ago owing to differences with the party leadership and who was at one time RSS Prachark and
Ideologue, has close links with the Yoga Guru. He is actively associated with Ram Dev movements and crusade launched by the Baba against corruption, as well as the Yoga Guru’s mission of imbibing
hard core nationalism and patriotism. In return, Ram Dev gives due consideration to Govinda Acharaya’s advice on political matters. There are suggestions that Baba Ram Dev, who had earlier repeatedly
announced his resolve to set up a political party and field candidates in all the Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 elections, has been advised and successfully persuaded by Govinda Acharya to abandon the idea and instead confine him self to launching ideologically based movement.
Even after leaving the BJP and distancing himself from the RSS, Govinda Acharya continues holding the core ideology of RSS on nationalism, based on ancient Hindu ethos. In this regards RSS,
Govinda Acharya and Baba Ram Dev are on the same page. After the mid night swoop by the police at Ramlila Madian, Delhi, forcibly shifting Baba Ram Dev to his Haridawar Ashram and using uncalled for excessive force to evict his followers from the venue, on June 4, 5, seriously injuring many of them, the Congress has declared an all out war on the Yoga Guru, trying to malign his image as well as
implicate him in cases of alleged financial irregularities. This has brought Baba Ram Dev and the Congress party and Its Govt in the Centre and states face to face with each other. In this back ground the all out support extended to the Baba and his movement by the RSS and BJP has the potential to push the Baba whole hog into the RSS fold, to the political advantage of BJP. The Congress has put itself in a state of being between the devil and deep sea. In case Baba Ram Dev comes out victorious, with Govt compelled to concede his demands, to save the life of the indefinitely fasting Baba, alternatively the Govt remaining adamant and the Baba sacrificing his life for the cause he has taken up, the forces likely to let loose have the potential to be detrimental for the Congress and its Govt in the Centre.
Anna Hazare and his civil society teem too coming out in open support of Ram Dev and growing confrontation between the former and Congress led UPA Govt in the Centre, with the latter trying to malign Hazare and his civil society teem too, charging it to be acting in a waywhich is being politically exploited by BJP is also going to harm the Congress and the Central Govt, to the advantage of BJP. The combination of three forces can become a formidable one, for the
Congress and its few allies unable to defeat.
