J&K constitutes teams to check overloading on Srinagar-Leh NH

SRINAGAR, Jun 12: Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted special teams to curb menace of overloaded Lorries plying on Srinagar-Leh National highway.
Special teams, comprising of representatives of traffic police, police, motor vehicles department and local officials, have been constituted to check overloading of load carriers on Srinagar-Leh National Highway, the official said after a high level meeting chaired by Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon here.
At the meeting, it was decided that all the load carriers carrying goods, FCI and Army supply have to pass through a weighbridge for weighing of load at Sonamarg, 84 kms from here, he said. The teams would camp at a point on the weighbridge and near a new transport yard at Sonamarg upto 6 PM, he added.
Keeping in view the maintenance of the road at Zojila pass, it was decided that no traffic would be allowed to ply on the highway from 12 noon to 3 PM and no heavy vehicle will be allowed to move towards Kargil after 6 PM, the spokesman said.
