Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 12: The statement of Chief Minister , Omar Abdullah that the Kashmiris and Sikhs were an important factor of Kashmiriyat and Sikhs stood through all thick and thin by Muslims in Valley has evoked a strong criticism from Kashmiri Pandits the indigenous people from Valley.

Strongly reacting to the Chief Minister’s statement the leaders of various KP organizations said the statement shows that Omar Abdullah is bereft of facts on Kashmir and its history and does not know that the Kashmiriyat about every Kashmiri politician boasts of has its origin in Rishi cult of Kashmir.

But by making a statement the Chief Minister has tried to ignore the role of Kashmiri Pandits whose towering leaders were responsible in motivating his grand father Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah to convert the Muslim Conference as national Conference (NC) to make it a broad based secular movement, said Rakesh Kaul, president Kashmir Samiti Delhi.

Kaul said by not mentioning the role and contribution of Pandits and referring to only two communities , Omar Abdullah ahs shown his total immaturity as a politician and ruler to head a sensitive state like J&K. He said this way the NC leader and Chief Minister has come in true colors as his Party has always acted against the interests of the community.

Lambasting the chief Minister and National Conference (NC)( he said right from 1989 when the minority Hindus were handed out from the valley by the terrorists under a game plan of Pakistan and supported by the fundamentalist elements in the Valley, the NC has launched a tirade against the community accusing the then Governor Jagmohan for mass exodus of the community.

He said an impressing has been given by the Valley Muslims that there was no problem in Kashmir and Pandits left their homes and hearths on their sweet will in search of greener pastures. Even recently during his visit to Tulmulla Omar Abdullah said that it depends on Pandits to thinks whether they will return or not and Government can’t force them, he added.

Ridiculing such statements Kaul said that those who said that minority pundits left on their own will in search of greener pastures outside the India should answer that who was responsible for selective killings of the community during 1989 and 1990 when militancy started in valley. What reply these people had to those press reports which were published in various newspapers of Kashmir by militant outfits asking minorities to vacate Valley within 48 hours in 1990.

Moreover who were responsible for Sangrampura, Vandhhama, Telwani and Nadimarg massacre, shooutout in Drussoo Pulwama where two ladies of the minority community were done to death by militants in broad day light. Or who was responsible for killing of Sarwnanand Kaul Premi a great secularist and his son who throughout his life had worked for the wellbeing of the majority community members of his village Soaf Shali in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, Tika Lal Taploo, Prem Nath Bhat, Ashok Qazi, Dwarika Nath a police hawaldar of Mahend, Jaggar Nath of Yorkhoshipora and hundreds of other community members.

Lambasting the statement of Chief Minister, Vikram Bhat a social activist said that this shows that NC and congress coalition have written off the Pandits completely from history of Kashmir. This is totally unfortunate, he added.

He said Omar Abdullah by making day in and day out anti community statements is forgetting that Pandits were the great teachers who have even educated his father and other Muslims of the valley who later touched heights in political or any other field. Not going far behind Mr Abdullah should study history of quit Kashmir so that he will come to know about the role of Justice Jia Lal Kilm, Kasho Bandu, Sham Lal Saraf, D P Dhar, Janki Nath Kakroo, Shiv Narayan Fotedar, Manohar Nath Kaul, P L Karihaloo, P L Handoo etc who throughout their life worked for nurturing secular values in Kashmir, he added.

By making such a statements the secular credentials of NC as well as its alliance partner Congress come to question, Mr Bhat said.
