World Blood Donor’s Day | Painting competition held in KU | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar June 13 (KNS): On the eve of World Blood Donor’s Day on Tuesday, a painting competition on theme ‘More Blood, More Life’ was organized in Kashmir University in which 50 students from various departments of the University, affiliated colleges and various city schools participated. Dr. Naheed Veeda from Home Science Department, Nowshad Gayoor from Institute of Music and Fine Arts and Arshid Souleh from College of Education, Srinagar were judges for the competition. Associate Dean Students’ welfare Dr. Mushtaq A Darzi, Assistant Dean Students Welfare, Showket Shafi and Cultural Officer KU, Shahid Ali Khan were present to supervise the competition. The winners of the competition will be awarded with mementos and merit certificates at the inaugural function of the blood donation camp to be held on Tuesday at Gandhi Bhawan. Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma will be the chief guest while vice-chancellor, KU, Prof Talat Ahmad will preside over the function. Blood Donor’s Day is celebrated every year on June 14 worldwide. On this day various events are organised to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products. Voluntary unpaid blood donors are invited to donate blood for life-saving. The theme for World Blood Donor Day for 2011 is, “More Blood, More Life.”
