President Cup: Treasurer XI beat Secretary XI | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 13: By virtue of first innings lead, Treasure XI emerged winner in the two-day opening match of the President Cup, organised by Jammu wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today. Making 230 runs in the first innings, General Secretary XI could not hold the run wielding machines of Treasurer XI and allowed latter surpass the set target and take away the match. Chasing a total of 230 runs, Treasurer XI made 251 runs losing all their wickets in 69.5 overs today. However, completing a formality of playing in the second innings, General Secretary XI were playing at 92 for two when all of a sudden the game came to an end on the direction of the organizers with 21 overs yet to be bowled. Earlier, resuming from overnight score of 51 for one, the duo of Sahil Bhalwal and skipper Inderjeet Singh played sensibly to take the score to 80, before Inderjeet dismissed at his individual score of 25 runs. But Sahil continued his brilliance to score handsome 63 runs in 108 balls including 11 boundaries struck with fluid grace. Then came the dependable Guru Pratap, who made solid and steady 54 runs in 118 balls with the help of eight boundaries. With good contributions from Ajit Pal Singh (33, 7x4), Sandeep Singh (26, 5x4) and Deepak Dogra (14, 2X4), the Treasurer XI got a decisive lead with total score on board being 251 in 69.5 overs. The match at one point of time was evenly poised, when sixth wicket fell and the team needed 40 more runs to win, but hard hitting Ajit Pal Singh changed the complexion of the game by hitting three back to back boundaries in one over of left-arm spinner Dilbagh Singh, who otherwise was a successful bowler. From General Secretary XI, Dibagh Singh was the most successful bowler, who claimed four wickets for 61 in 16 overs, while Soumay Jain and Arshad Sheikh shared two wickets each. Later, in their second innings, General Secretary XI lost opener Nipun Verma after the very first ball of the second innings bowled by pace spearhead Sahil Sharma. However, number three batsman Shashi Kumar and opener Pranav Gupta consolidated the innings, before Pranav was castled by Deepak Dogra at his individual score of 13 runs. Shashi and skipper Dhruv Mahajan were going great guns when the match was stopped with 21 overs yet to be bowled. Shashi was unbeaten on 50 runs while Dhruv on 28 when the stumps were drawn. Sahil Sharma and Deepak Dogra took one wicket each for Treasurer XI.
