JKPDTU resents violation of labour laws | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jun 13: JKPDTU today held meeting to resent violation of labour laws, minimum wages Act in the state by hydroelectric and tunneling agencies. A meeting of Executive body of the JKPDTU was held here today under the chairmanship of Suresh Sharma to discuss various issues concerning working class of the state. It was noted with concern that coalition government has miserably failed to redress the just and genuine demands of the government and PSU employees. Meeting was convened to primarily discuss issues linked with labour and locals of District Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar. He demanded that local labour both skilled and unskilled should be given first preference in the State run Hydroelectric Projects, Chenani–Nashri tunnel Project, Gool-Sangaldhan railway Project, Rattle Hydroelectric Project taken up by various private agencies. Labour leaders pointed out that the firms engaged in the execution of these projects are exploiting workers and violating the labour laws. Import of workmen by these firms from outside the state was severely criticized. They urged the PDTU leadership to take up these issues with the higher authorities. Prominent PDTU leaders who attended the meeting included Prem Singh Bawa, Anchal Bakshi, Shabir Khan, C.K.Sudan, B.N. Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Mohammed Yaqoob and Sansar Chand. They pledged to intensify membership drive. Sharma demanded job and rehabilitation of all such families whose land is coming under these Projects besides giving compensation at the rates applicable in the Kashmir Valley. |
