Aijaz inaugurates archives exhibition

JAMMU, NOV 23
The Minister of State for Higher Education and Forests, Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan has inaugurated special exhibition on world famous manuscripts of “Shahnama Firdosi, Basohli paintings, jewelery, textiles, armoury pertaining to Dogra period Numismatics and other artefacts at Dogra Art Museum Mubarak Mandi Jammu today.
Mr. Aijaz visited each stall installed in the exhibition accompanied by Director Archives, Archaeology and Museum Mr. K.A.Qadri who apprised the Minister that the famous manuscript Shahnama Firdosi is hand written and calligraphed by Syed Jalal-u-Din Bukhari 1654- AD durng Shah-Jahan period. The 40 photographs of the illustrations of Shahnama has also been displayed in the exhibition.
Mr. Aijaz also visited the Dogra Art Museum, Reference library and urged concerned officers to preserve these valuable manuscripts and books for future generation. He said our future generation could learn about rich art and culture of the state through these valuable books and artefacts.
The Minister was informed that department has made arrangements for awareness programme for school children about the importance and preservation of heritage objects at departmental, conservation laboratory Mubarak Mandi from Nov. 20th to 25th 2006. He was also informed that free entry to Dogra Art Museum Jammu and Shri Pratap Singh Museum at Srinagarfor all visitors will be on 19th and 23rd Nov. 2006.
To highlight the records,historical documents and manuscript at Mubarak Mandi, the visitors have to enter the museum after obtaining tickets. The common visitors have to pay Rs. 10, Senior citizens Rs. 5 and school children Rs. 2. The museum would be open from 10 A.M to 4 P.M and Monday would be closed.
Similarly, exhibition of archival records historical documents and manuscripts is also going on at State Archives Repository old Secretariat Srinagar and people from different walks of life an evincing keen interest in the display treasures.
Mr. Aijaz urged the officers to keep the vicinity and museum neat and clean and all efforts should be made to preserve these manuscripts.
The Minister was accompanied by Principal Secretary Higher and Technical Education Mr. A. K. Angurana and other senior officers of Archives, Archaeology and Museum.
