Army prevents catastrophe in Kalakot | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 13: Stellar efforts from Army & civil administrative prevented a catastrophe which could have resulted into one of the most denting accidents in recent times in Rajouri District. Transformers in the Kalakote based electric power station caught fire at around midnight on June 11. Within no time, 4 transformers got engulfed in the flames and it seemed as if the blaze would cause a huge property loss to nearby inhabited areas. A huge congregation of Army personal, police, fire brigade and civilians grouped themselves & controlled the fire & prevented it from spreading further. A team of engineers including two Chief Engineers and a few XENs reached the accident site next morning. The loss to the electric power station was estimated to be in tune of 1.5 to 2.5 crores. Moreover, replacement of damaged equipment would further cost approx the same amount to the exchequer. The audacious reactions of Army, SHO Kalakot, Ashok Verma (Sarpanch Kalakot) and personnel of the fire tender stationed at Kalakot saved numerous lives and property worth several crores. Once again, the prevention of such a massive accident underscored the seamless coordination between security forces and civil administration. The local population as well as the civil administration expressed their gratefulness to the Army for their quick response and support in averting a major tragedy.
