25 students on tour to the ‘ City of Joy’ | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 13: Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana has been helping the local population to join the main stream of the country. Keeping up with this tradition, in an effort towards spreading goodwill and awareness in the insurgency ridden areas of Reasi, Talwara, Rajouri, a group of 25 students and 2 teachers were set out for a two week tour to Kolkata, Siligri, Gangtok, Kalimpong and Darjeeling. The tour aims at exploring parts of our country that exist beyond confines of their own abode in the rural J&K. The tour is being organized by Rashtriya Rifles Uniform Force under the aegis of White Knight Corps as part of Operation Sadbhavana. The tour was flagged off from Reasi on June 8. The tour emphasized the need for people to shed their inhibitions and join hands in ushering in a new era of peace and development. At Kolkata, the children had interaction with Lt Gen Bikram Singh, GOC-in-C Eastern Command at Fort William. Speaking to the children, the General exhorted them to inculcate ideals of national integration and patriotism. During their stay at Kolkata, they also saw Eden gardens, Birla Planetarium, Second Hooghly river bridge, Victoria Memorial and many more areas before proceeding to Silliguri for their other tour. He highlighted the ongoing programmes under Operation Sadbhavana towards better education and health in remote areas. The tour party will return on June 22, 2011.
