DDK Srinagar lady official ‘missing’ | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jun 13: Executive Producer in Dooradrshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar, Shammi Shayir, has disappeared in mysterious circumstances from her house at Shalimar in the afternoon today. Sources at DDK Srinagar said that Shammi Shayir appeared at her office in the forenoon today and soon left back for her home with the plea that her father was ailing. However, when DDK officials attempted to contact her in connection with today’s open-air show of Natiya Mushaira at Emporium Garden on phone, it was continuously switched off. Officials later contacted her husband, Malik Mansoor Vellayat, a Superintending Engineer in Power Development Department and other family members who all maintained that they had no knowledge of her whereabouts. They maintained that Mrs Shayir had left for her office but did not return to her home till late tonight. They confirmed that her father had been ill since last few months. However, according to unconfirmed reports, one of Prasar Bharti’s Kashmiri officials called his Srinagar-based friends from New Delhi in the evening and revealed to them that Mrs Shayir had been seen shuttling between offices of Directorate General of Doordarshan, Prasar Bharti and Shastri Bhawan with the claim that she be posted as “officiating Director” at DDK Srinagar. Even as some politicians and private producers are reportedly supporting her, authorities in Delhi are said to have turned down Mrs Shayir’s plea with the argument that she had been deeply involved in embezzlement of the funds worth Crores of Rupees provided to DDK Srinagar by DD headquarters and Union Ministry of Agriculture for two farm programmes, titles ‘Butraat’ and ‘Krishi Darshan’. With her continuous posting at DDK Srinagar since 1985, Mrs Shayir has broken all records of stay at one place. According to sources, she had been transferred as many as four times in the last 12 years but every time she managed to get the orders cancelled in New Delhi. A middle-rung official at DDK Srinagar said that according to the information available with him, Mrs Shayir was planning to visit her daughter who was currently doing her MBBS in Bangladesh. It was not clear whether her visit was restricted to Delhi or extending to Bangladesh. He said that he was trying to learn about the whereabouts of the lady official. According to him, she had not obtained any special leave permission for visiting Delhi or Bangladesh. END
