Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 13: Though militancy is on wane in Kashmir as people are fed up with gun culture but a common question which is making rounds in entire Kashmir Valley is that how some separatists leaders who took to arms in 1989-90 and were responsible for killing hundreds of innocent Kashmiris as well members of security forces rose from rags to riches overnight .
This is a common question haunting the Kashmiris at present and people want to seek its reply. The majority of the separatist leaders who took to arms in 1989-90 belonged either to middle or lower middle class families and during the last 22 years of turmoil they have created assets worth corers of rupees in different parts of the Valley even in posh colonies and business hub of Capital city of Srinagar.
According to sources the people are also posing a question to Government which has failed to investigate that how these militant leaders who sucked the blood of common masses during the turmoil period rose from mud to marble and how they managed to built the mansions in the posh colonies of Srinagar, established their business centers in its main markets which are considered the hub of the city.
The Government till date has failed to make investigation regarding the huge wealth and property amassed by these separatist leaders who had run a parallel Government in Valley over two decades and were ruling the roost.
The people want this all be investigated and the sources where from the money came be revealed otherwise the Government should confisticated this all property which has been on the name of these leaders and has come from unaccountable source of money, sources said, adding a group of NGOs from Valley has decided to approach the higher ups in Government and launch a campaign against these so called leaders. These NGOs have also decided to sue these militant leaders for the crimes committed by them during the last 22 years and seek legal action against them.
Sources said the group of these progressive NGOs who are also working for the welfare of militancy victims in the state have decided to mobilize public opinion against the global terrorism which has been the main cause of the destruction of the civilizations and a curse on the name of humanity.
Sources said that two militant leaders who were doing a pity job before 1988 have amassed such a huge wealth that they managed to purchase a mansion near Lal Chowk in Srinagar. Besides they also possess huge assets in other parts of the Valley including the Capital city.
Sources said the mansion near Lal Chowk is a joint venture of the two militant leaders while they also possess the separate assets in other parts of the Kashmir either on their individual names or the names of their family members.
Sources said that the militant leaders are at present among the richest people in the Valley who on the name of Jehad exploited the innocent Kashmiris and turned the entire Kashmir into a macabre during these years. But who so ever had dared to revolt against them was done to death by them and their agents.
Sources said as Kashmir is limping back to normalcy the civil society is pondering over the question as what Kashmiris achieved and lost during the last 22 years of turmoil. The separatists who spearheaded the so -called movement are today considered the worst enemies of people in Valley as they made hundreds of children orphans, hundreds of women widows and snatched the bread earners form hundreds of families during these years.
Sources said that mansions have not been constructed by these two militant leaders but scores of other separatist leaders have amassed huge wealth and they are at present among the richest people of Valley. ``We should act against such people so that no one in future can dare to cheat the Kashmiris for their vested interests’’, said Abdul Kabir a progressive Kashmiri.
