Tarigami for concrete measures to avoid road mishaps | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JUNE 14:-The house panel constituted to look into the causes of road mishaps has asked Chief Secretary to secure sanction for the DPRs envisaging construction of crash barriers on the leftover stretch of Batote-Kishtwar road from the Union Ministry of Surface Transport. This information came to fore at a meeting of the committee, chaired by M. Y. Tarigami here today. It was given out that delay in the sanction of the DPRs drawn up by Project BEACON is hampering installation of crash-barriers on the leftover segment of Batote-Kishtwar road. The Chairman also spoke to Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal impressing upon him to furnish reply of the questionnaire seeking details about causes of road mishaps, preventive measures and expert opinion besides concrete suggestions/proposals and opinion regarding checking incidence of road accidents taking place on Batote-Kishtwar road frequently. In another significant decision, the committee decided to conduct on the spot inspection to have first hand appraisal about the vulnerability of the spots along the intra Chenab valley road. Addressing the meeting, Trigram called for sincere and serious approach on the part of concerned departments for putting an end to the recurring phenomenon of road mishaps along the road. “The House has mandated us to come up with concrete and pragmatic report for which all of us have to put mind and body together”, he observed. “The problem has to be seen from humanitarian angle”, he said adding the administration as well as the members of the committee cannot afford to shirk from their prime responsibility towards the people inhabiting erstwhile Doda district.
