3-day Agar Jittoo mela commences | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA, JUNE 14- A three day Agar Jittoo fair which is held every year at the shrine of Shri Baba Jitto in district Reasi commenced here today. Agar Jittoo, a few kilometer away from Katra town on Katra-Reasi road, is the birth place of revolutionary peasant, Baba Jittoo who is till remembered and revered for his campaign against the brutal system to ameliorate the condition of his fellow farmers. A huge statue of Baba Jitto, besides that of his daughter Bua Kouri, dominates the place, which has now been beautified by developing a land scape garden. A bath in the water falling from the hill side is considered very beneficial for the childless ladies and those suffering from various ailments. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has constructed a one shopping complex, Sarai and marble statue of Baba Jittoo. The District Administration has made all necessary arrangements for the visiting devotees and other persons participated in the fair. Various departments which include Horticulture, Agriculture, Tourism and other department have put up their stalls besides Municipality Katra has made illumination and other arrangements. The Police department has made security arrangements in and around the shrine. A yatar will be held in the evening where poujari of the shrine will participated. The Tehsildar Reasi Mr. Kunal Sharma who is mela officer supervising all the activities during the mela days. Many vendors have put up their sweet shop, toys and other eatable item. A Jagran will also be held in the evening in which renowned singers from Jallander will participated followed by Bhandara on next day. A Dangal will also be held on 16th June as part of the fair.
