Fotedar’s statement on Omar’s age evokes sharp response
6/14/2011 9:22:08 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, June 14 : A day after senior Congress leader and close confidante of Gandhi family, Makhan Lal Fotedar, said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wasn’t even born when accession treaty between state and the center was signed National Conference and state Congress leaders sharply reacted to the statement.
A spokesperson of National Conference while questioning Fotedar’s credibility, said, “Fotedar belongs to that vested interest group which has always been hatching conspiracies against NC in New Delhi. Fotedar should remind that reason for signing of Indira-Sheikh accord in 1975 was to restore 1952 position to the state.”
“Fotedar is jealous of NC like (Peoples Democratic Party patron) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba as they know NC is the party of people and have always fought for there rights,” he added.
The NC spokesperson said that Fotedar praised Mufti as both are friends. “Fotedar liked sex scandal and corrupt rule of Mufti,” he added.
Senior state Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi0ud-Din termed Fotedar’s statement as his personal view. “It is his (Fotedar’s) personal view and shouldn’t be taken serious,” Taj told KNS.
“Everybody has right to comment and it isn’t party (Congress) statement,” he added.
Another state Congress leader, Abdul Gani Vakil while commenting on the issue said, “Fotedar shouldn’t have passed such a comment on Omar. He (Omar) is head of the state. Rahul Gandhi represents new India and same is with Omar. Youth have taken center stage in the politics of the country.”
“He (Fotedar) instead of parsing Mufti should have praised Sonia Jee and Dr Manmohan Singh for opening of Srinagar-Muzzaferabad road. He should have praised former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during whose tenure lot of development of the state happened,” he added.
Vakil accused Fotedar of back stabbing his own party. “When Mufti’s PDP withdrew its support to Congress in 2008, it resulted in lot of problems to the people of the state. Developmental activities were at peak that time and when the government fell, it came to standstill,” he claimed.
