Brigadier Rajinder Singh remembered | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 14: On the auspicious occasion of 114th birth anniversary of great Dogra Brigadier Rajinder Singh, a function was held in Ward No. 1 of Jammu East assembly constituency. Jammu East MLA Ashok Khajuria was the chief guest. The portrait of Brigadier Rajinder Singh was garlanded by Khajuria and other prominent leaders of the party besides a large number of local people. Remembering this great soldier, Ashok Khajuria said that we feel proud to be born on the Dogra land which has the history of being the birth place of a number of great patriotic people, who sacrificed their precious lives for the nation and nation’s cause in the state. He said that Brig. Singh delayed Pakistani invasion for four days from 23 to 27 October 1947 on Uri front which helped Maharaja Hari Singh to accede to Indian Union and get reinforcement. He said, our state is part of Republic of India due to the sacrifice of Brig. Rajinder Singh and numerous other Indian soldiers. Brig. Rajinder Singh, who came to be known as “saviour of Kashmir” was awarded the first gallantry award of Independent Indian, “Maha Vir Chakra” posthumously for his courage and supreme sacrifice. Ashwani Bali, Mohan Lal Raina, Bua Dass, Anil Masoom, Kuldep Kandhari and Kuldeep Sharma were prominent among those who also garlanded the portrait of Brig. Rajinder Singh.
