Sham calls for mass awareness for voluntary donations’

SRINAGAR, JUNE 14- To commemorate the World Donor Day, a blood donation camp was organized in the Kashmir University Campus.
The camp was organized here in Department of Students Welfare in collaboration with the J&K State AIDs Control Society, Health Department and Hussaini Relief Society, Srinagar and inaugurated by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma.
Minister for State for Health and Medical Education, Mr. Javed Ahmed Dar, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Talat Ahmed, Registrar, Prof. S. Fayaz Ahmed, Mission Director, NRHM Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Saleem –ur- Rehman members of various NGOs, students and staff of the Kashmir University were also present on the occasion.
In his address, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma said that blood donation is the noble cause and everybody irrespective of colour, caste and creed should voluntarily donate and save the precious lives. Maintaining that many NGOs and social organization are doing good work in this field, he emphasized the need to gear up the efforts and motivate more and more people to come forward to support the cause.
Laying stress on launching a massive awareness campaign, the Minister said that students can be the best ambassadors to educate others about the significance of blood donation. He appreciated the endeavor of the Kashmir University for organizing the camp. He also emphasized the need for collective efforts by the Government agencies and NGOs to jointly organize such camps after small intervals so that adequate quantity of blood can be stored in the banks across the State.
. Sham Lal appealed to all the sections of the society to help in curbing the menace of female foeticide. “The recent figures of census are eye opener for all of us. We have to give a serious thought on this issue and take corrective measures to improve the ratio”, he said.
