World Blood Donor Day observed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 14……….. J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, today organized function to celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The month long campaign to celebrate the day was inaugurated here today by Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu in the Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Dr. Ashok Sharma, Director, Health Services, Jammu presided over the function. The other dignitaries present on the occasion included Mr. Anil Padha, Secretary Red Cross Society, Jammu, Dr. T.R. Raina, HOD, Department of Immunohaemotology Blood Transfusion, Govt. Medical College Jammu and Secretary General ISBTI, Prof. Nalini Kohli, Principal, Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu & Deepika B. Thakur, Deputy Director, J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (JKSACS). Speaking on the occasion Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu appealed the masses particularly the youth to come forward to donate blood and also highlighted the benefits of blood donation. To motivate the gathering he also donated blood in the Mobile Blood Bank, which is well equipped with latest gadgets for blood donation and services of which were made available in the college premises here today. To mark the inaugural day function Dr. Kotwal also felicitated more than forty frequent donors, institutions and personalities who have contributed a lot for blood donation over the years. He also congratulated the organizers - J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society, Red Cross Society, Jammu & ISBTI for making World Blood Donor Day more meaningful and creating awareness about blood donation through this camp. Director, Health Services, Jammu Dr. Ashok Sharma also urged the need for more blood donation to save lives. For this he sought the cooperation of everyone at all levels. Dr. T R Raina, HOD, Department of Immunohaemotology Blood Transfusion, Govt. Medical College Jammu also highlighted different aspects of blood donation and urged the people to come forward and donate liberally. Earlier welcoming the guests Deepika B. Thakur, Deputy Director, J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society emphasized the importance of blood donation especially in the context of HIV/AIDS prevention and control. She highlighted that the month long drive will focus on the theme “More Blood More Life”. She also focused on the series of activities planned by JKSACS in collaboration with Govt. & NGOs which will surely ensure that more and more people come forward for this noble cause.
The JKSACS Team also joined the celebrations of World Blood Donor Day at ASCOMS, Sidhra, Jammu which was organized by Dr. Kum Kum Sharma, HOD, Blood Bank, ASCOMS in collaboration with JKSACS & Times of India.
