Niyas succeeds in establishing Jesht Purnima as auspicious day for start of yatra | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 14: Though Baba Amarnath and Buda Amarnath Yatri Niyas (BABAYN) agreement with Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) is being viewed as surrender by the Niyas but two things on which the Niyas has gained is that it succeeded in establishing jesht Purnima as the auspicious day for the beginning of the yatra for holy cave of Swami Amanrnath and convincing the Government to take a decision once for all for the yatra duration in future. The pressure tactics used by the Niyas and various other organisations forced the Board as well as State Government to hold negotiations with the Niyas and other Hindu bodies on the yatra date so that two month old impasse on the issue is settled. After the failure of the talks on June 12 when four member team of various Sangh based organisations returned from Srinagar and did not agree to board a helicopter for holy cave to have the Ariel survey of the track and refusal of VHP national spokesman Dr Surinder Jain not to hold future talks with the Board till it does not come up with a concrete proposal on yatra issue, the authorities and Board officials were totally perturbed. There were apprehensions that the stalemate in talks between the Board and Niyas office bearers may lead to a major show down today the date declared by the Board to flag off the first batch of yatra from Jammu. The Niyas and Hindu organisations had invited the 10 heads of various Shaiv Akharas along with the Sadhus of these Akharas and three Shankaracharyas and one Mahamandleswar to Jammu to participate in the yatra. And the authorities were apprehensive that such a decision could lead to major show down between them and authorities in case the issue is not settled well in advance. The Government does not want to aggravate the situation by sticking to its rigid stand. This is the reason that the senior police officers of Jammu and those of civil administrations had three rounds of talks with senior leaders of Sangh Parivar in Jammu prior to settlement of official meeting between Board and Niyas office beaers. The two senior officers pursued the Sangh Parvivar to motivate the Niyas to give up its rigid sand on yatra date as government was ready to find a middle path to break the impasse. After succeeding in motivating the senior functionaries of the Sangh these two senior officers gave a green signal to Board and higher ups in Government for holding the parlays with Niyas and VHP leaders. The representatives of the Board and the Government came from Srinagar later in the afternoon to hold talks with the Niyas and VHP leadership here. The Board agreed to perform pratham poojan on June 15 i.e Jeshtpurnima day which the Niyas and other Hindu organisations have been saying is a auspicious date for yatra from times immemorial. Moreover the Niyas also made the Board to agree to constitute a Sub Committee to settle the issue of yatra duration once for all for future as there should be no conflict in this regard. This is being considered a great victory by the Niyas who say for face saving at least they have made Government to agree to perform the pratham poojan on jesht Purnima to which it was not ready earlier. Moreover to settle the issue once for all the Board has also agreed to seek opinion of various organizations, intellectuals, religious guru, traders and environmentalists on the future duration of yatra so that the issue is settled once for all. |
