Promotion of IT Industry top Priority -Salathia | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, JUNE 15: Maintaining that industrial development was key for economic emancipation and prosperity of the state, the Minister for Industries & Commerce, S.S. Slathia today called for promotion of Medium and Large scale Industries in a big way. He urged for development of proper industrial infrastructure and congenial industrial atmosphere in the state to attract huge investments from Industry tycoons of the country and abroad. Reviewing the performance of the J&K State Industrial Development Corporation (J&K SIDCO) here this afternoon, the Minister emphasized the need to promote industries which shall have raw material locally available in abundance. With special reference to said electronic and IT Industries, Slathia said such industries are eco-friendly and are suited to J&K keeping in view its geo-topographic conditions. He said Government is committed to provide all the requisite facilities for development of export oriented industries adding that IST Phase of the Inland Container Depot coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 14.68 crore is expected to be completed by ending July this year. This will provide containerized cargo facility and is designated Import and Export Centre with custom clearance facility. The Minister said that the Government is determined to promote Leather Industry in the State in a big way as about 3 millions sheep hides are locally available as raw material for this which is otherwise exported to other States of the Country for processing and value addition. He said the Common Effluent Treatment plant at Industrial Growth Centre, Lassipora, is nearing completion and would be commissioned by ending July this year which shall go a long way in developing and promoting the Leather Industry in the State. The Managing Director of J&K SIDCO, M. Mauzzam while giving a resume of the activities of Corporation said that 175 Industrial Units in medium and large scale sectors have been set up in the State upto May, 2011 with an investment of Rs. 53.15 crore, of which 82 units have gone into production, providing employment to about 39000 persons. He said four major Industrial Estates are under development which include Industrial Estate Khanmoh Phase III over 907 kanals of land, Samba Phase III over 2850 kanals, and Industrial estate Ompora over 1008 kanals, whereas environment clearance for Industrial Estate Ghatti, Kathua is expected to be received by ending October this year. He said National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is coming up at Industrial Estate Ompora Budgam adding that a modern Information Technology (IT) Park is also coming up there. In addition, Trade Facilitation Centres one each at Salamabad, Uri and Chakandabagh, Poonch arte also coming up to boost bilateral trade between two parts of the State. He said a modern Information Technology Tower is also coming up at Industrial Estate, Rangreth to promote IT Industry in the State.
