Prof. Dinesh Singh delivers lecture at IUST | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 15: Professor Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor Delhi University delivered a Lecture at Islamic University of Science and Technology on the topic ‘History of Indian Mathematics: From the Indus Civilization to Srinivas Ramanujan’. Professor A R Trag, vice chancellor IUST, while welcoming Professor Singh lauded his contribution to the Science of Mathematics in India. Special mention was made of Professor Singh role in framing and fine tuning of the course curricula of Actuarial and Financial Mathematics of Islamic University of Science and Technology. In his lecture Professor Singh talked about the renowned mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan who despite belonging to a very poor family carved out his own image in the world of Science with his hard work and intelligence. He advised the students to draw inspiration from mathematicians like Ramanujan, work hard and prove themselves as the brightest mathematicians. Dr. Fozia Qazi, Head Department of Mathematic IUST, presented the vote of thanks to the guest lecturer, dignitaries and other participants. Professor Singh had an interactive session with the students and faculty members of Department of Mathematics after his general lecture. Professor Singh said, “I had heard much about the IUST but have found it better than what I had heard. I can assess that the students here are bright.” While appreciating the efforts to establish the University, Professor Singh assured all support to the new University in achieving its objectives. Professor Trag requested Professor Singh for consideration of collaboration between Delhi University and IUST in important areas of academics. The Lecture was attended by Prof. Mohammed Amin Sofi, Head Departmentof Mathematics University of Kashmir, all the Deans of Islamic University besides other faculty members and students from Islamic University and University of Kashmir.
