Gupta hints at formation of regional party | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 15: Former union minister and veteran BJP leader, Chaman Lal Gupta, Wednesday hinted at forming a regional party in Jammu and Kashmir. In an exclusive interview with KNS Gupta said, “We can’t rule out formation of a regional party. What is the option left with us if central leadership will not take its decision of suspension of MLAs back?” The BJP Parliamentary Board had recently decided to expel Gupta from the party’s primary membership for six years. Gupta and six other MLAs were accused of casting their votes in favour of the ruling National Conference-Congress candidates in the council elections, ignoring the party whip. The BJP candidate polled only four votes, though the party strength in the legislative assembly was 11 “A big conspiracy was hatched against me within the party. The party high command must realize that I am the architect of the party in Jammu and Kashmir and have strengthened it all along. I attained respectable position in the party because of hard work and dedication,” Gupta told KNS. However, he kept options of forming a regional party open incase high command fails to address the issue. “Regional parties are gaining momentum in whole country. BJP will dearly pay for suspending me and other MLAs for no sin of ours,” he warned. Gupta who served as union minister of state for defence and civil aviation in NDA government headed by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 2002 to 2004 said that whosoever cross-voted should be punished. “Why were only BJP MLAs targeted? Legislators of other parties also cross-voted. Why was only BJP targeted,” he asked. Gupta blamed ruling National Conference and Congress coalition in Jammu and Kashmir of ignoring issues of common people. “NC leaders used to call Congress people as ‘gandi nalee ke keeday’. How they (NC) formed coalition with them now. It is lust of power which is keeping them together,” he added. The estranged BJP leader said that coalition government had ignored the people and developmental works in the state had come to a grinding halt. “They (coalition) want to confuse public as they have not been able to solve issues of the people. Unemployment is on rise and government is nowhere. Government doesn’t want to see opposition and is trying to muzzle its voice,” he alleged. |
