Highest number of 60 POK guests arrive, none from Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jun 16 : Highest number of 60 fresh guests from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) arrived here this afternoon while none from the Kashmir valley crossed over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) for the second consecutive week.
Official sources said here today that 60 guests, highest in 2011, from PoK, including 24 women and 20 children, arrived at Kaman Post, the last Indian military post on the LoC in Uri sector after crossing the Amen Setu bridge on foot.
Earlier as many as 55 PoK guests had arrived here on June 9.
However, the earlier all time highest number was on June 17 last year when 60 PoK guests arrived here.
Seven residents of the Kashmir valley, who had gone to PoK in the previous buses, also returned to their homes after staying with their relatives across the LoC.
However, for the second consecutive week, no Kashmiri crossed to the other side.
But, five PoK residents, who had arrived here in previous buses returned to their homes after completing their stay here.
The bus service was started on April 7,2005 after both India and Pakistan agreed to allow families divided in 1947 to meet each other on permits instead of International passports.
Despite opposition by the militant organisations, thousands of families could meet each since the bus service was flagged off by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on April 7,2005.
