LeT commander, associate killed in Kupwara | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar June 16 : Two suspected militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit were killed in an encounter with troops in north Kashmir’s Handwara area of Kupwara district on Thursday.
“Two militants have been killed and the operation is over,” Srinagar based spokesman of Army, Lt Colonel J S Brar told reporters.
He identified the slain militants as LeT divisional commander, Abu Jibran and his associate Muslim Zarar.
Army’s 52-Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police had laid a siege around Sultanpora forest area in
Rajwar Handwara in the wee hours today. As the security forces started advances, militants hiding in the densely forested area opened heavy fire to stop the search team. The troops returned the fire triggering off a fierce gun-battle which lasted for 12-hours.
Three AK-47 rifles, six magazines and three rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) boosters have been recovered from the possession of slain militants.
