EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, June 16:
Following panchayat elections, although allegations and counter
allegations between winning and defeated candidates is on, people are
complaining that the election turned a big problem for them because it
has boosted community rivalries especially in Poonch district of the
state where people in many areas have reportedly been denied water,
electricity and now some people have approached police that elected
Sarpanch has ordered for stopping even ration supply to them.
As per reports, Poonch district is witnessing serious post election
situation which has made cracks among the families and given boost to
rivalries in the area. Although there were large scale complaints that
people of one group have stopped water and electricity to another
group for not voting in their favour, some people of Sangyote
Panchayat have approached Police Station Gursai in Mendhera area
alleging that the local Sarpanch has directed the officials not to
issue ration to his opponents.
As per sources, some people of Sangyote area have submitted an
application to Station House Officer Gursai alleging that Sarpanch has
ordered for stopping their ration because they had not voted him.
The tension erupted in the area after a scuffle between the supporters
of Sarpanch and his opponents over ration in front of the depot. These
complainants have alleged that they were denied ration in the area
because they had voted against the Sarpanch. Three persons namely
Mohammad Hafeez, Lal Khan and Karamat Hussain also received injuries
in the scuffle.
Meanwhile police said that they are investigating the complaint and
will take necessary action only after investigate is over. It is
pertinent to mention here that there are few areas of Mendher where
people are complaining that they are being restricted to walk on
particular path only because they had voted against elected Sarpanches
and Panches. “We just participated in the democratic system but we are
being harassed by this system”, a resident said adding “If this is
democracy, we reject it and we will prefer dictatorship than this type
of democracy”.
