Fake turmeric factory raided, owner absconds | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 16: Police have seized a large quantity of impure turmeric powder and large number of cases of adulterated juice from a fake factory. According to police sources, on specific information police conducted raids in Barjala area falling under the jurisdiction of Satwari police station here today. The fake turmeric powder was being produced using grinded waste of turmeric and rice plants mixed with colour, SHO Abid Rafiqi informed when contacted, however, the officer added, the artificial essence used makes the turmeric powder look and smell similar to the original product. The factory owner, Subash Chander son of Pukha Ram of Barjala, used to provide the fake powder at a fraction of the original price of turmeric powder after labelling on them the brand of Suraj and Sugandh. The same turmeric powder packets cost nearly Rs 220 per kg when sold in the open market. Subash Chander, who is absconding, police said, besides preparing and selling fake turmeric also indulged in the illegal manufacturing of adulterated juice. The impure juice was packaged in bottles of Delhi based juice company -Reo, and then, supplied in open market. Police have registered a case under section 420,482 RPC, 3/7 essential commodities act against the manufacturer under FIR NO 19/2011. |
