Why IUST (Awantipore) chooses to overlook BOPEE scores? | Weightage for AI EEE scores only in B.Tech selections | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 16: Students and parents are aghast in the Valley over the complete dismissal of the marks obtained by an aspiring candidate in the common entrance test (CET) conducted by the state Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) by the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipore. In its process of selection for the various professional courses the IUST holds entrance tests, but strange enough is the fact that for its B.Tech course selections are being made by the IUST on the basis of scores obtained by a candidate in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AI EEE) and the qualifying exam only. The University has decided to give 70% and 30% weightage to the scores obtained by a candidate in the AI EEE and the qualifying exam, but no weightage would be given to scores obtained by an aspiring candidate in the BOPEE test! The IUST (Awantipore) has chosen to completely overlook the fact that BOPEE conducts tests for selections to various professional courses in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture and Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir, SKUAST (Jammu), Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and all other government and private professional colleges in the state. How can IUST be an exception to the rule of selection for various professional courses in the University? "This is total injustice to the candidates who labour hard to make good scores in BOPEE exams, but are somehow not able to make it to the final selection lists issued by the CET. "The BOPEE has right since its inception been doing excellent and commendable work in making timely, efficient and transparent selections to the various professional colleges in the state. "It has been accepted and recognized as the most trusted selection making organization in Jammu and Kashmir. The IUST (Awantipore) overlooking the BOPEE scores is singularly discriminatory. Accepted that AI EEE tests are respected and valid throughout the country, but why is a single university in the state making such a departure from the accepted practice?" Asked Mohsin Shafi, a student who had missed the BOPEE cut off by a whisker last year and now intends to apply for the B. Tech course in IUST (Awantipore). Parents and students here demand IUST (Awantipore) should give sole weightage to the scores obtained by a candidate in the BOPEE test thereby bringing the selection process for the B.Tech course in line with the accepted practice in other universities and professional institutions in the state. |
