Public rage burst against PDD in Rajouri

Rajouri, June 17
An acute crises of power is being witnessed in Rajouri Poonch
following damage of 133/32 KV Transformer at Kalakote. The annoyed
people although wait for a week about the government response today
hold demonstrations on National Highway and Sunderbani, Nowshera and Kalakote areas to show their anger against the Power Development Department. They are raised slogans against the local Minister of State for Power Shabir Ahmed Khan and termed PDD as failure in providing people electricity for the last many days.
The locals today hold protest on Highway near Narian where they blocked the road and disrupted traffic for about 6-7 hours. They raised slogans against government and concerned department and demanded immediate restoration of power supply.
The protestors said that PDD has snapped power of the people for the last many days and they are now facing even water shortage. “Power
breakdown has resulted in the shortage of water in the whole area and we are facing acute water crises also”, Mohan Singh a protestor said adding that they have not get the supply of water for the last four days.
Accusing PDD of diverting a transformer to Akhnoor, locals alleged that a transformer had been sanctioned for Siot which had a capacity
to give power to Sunderbani, Kalakote and Nowshera but the same was
diverted to Akhnoor by the department. “We want that the government
must investigate why the transformer was diverted to Akhnoor”, they said adding that if it would had been installed at Siot, the present crises would not have been arisen. They said that PDD higher ups are involved in diverting this transformer and they must explain why they diverted it.
Meanwhile a protest demonstration on the same issue was also held at Sunderbani and Nowshera where people alleged that PDD has failed to deliver their duty and people are suffering in the area due to power and water shortage.
