Rural road connectivity in J&K to be improved under PMGSY | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 17: The centre has earmarked Rs.127 crores for acquisition of land for implementation of Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojna(PMGSY) In Jammu and Kashmir during the current financial year. Official sources said that during the current financial year emphasis was being laid on building village roads in far flung areas in the state under the PMGSY. Sources said that in the past land acquisition had become a difficult exercise of the funds earmarked for the plan used to be inadequate. Several hundred cores of rupees were being utilized under the PMGSY for improving road connectivity in the remote rural areas. Sources admitted that because of short working period because of weather r elated problems various schemes under the PMGSY could not be implemented on time. They said that under the scheme over Rs.160 cores were being spent under the PMGSY in building village roads in the districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Bandipore and Kargil. Efforts were being made to develop road link between remote villages and the tehsil headquarters. There were still over 300 villages in the state which had no proper road connectivity with the tehsil headquarters. These state is to get Rs.1200 crores under the PMRP and out of this Rs.94.41 are earmarked for construction of two-room flats for Kashmiri migrants,Rs.285 crores for the Dal Lak and the Nigin Lake oustees,Rs.191 crores for Mughal Road,Rs.14 crores on construction of buildings for 10 new degree colleges and Rs 9 crores for five ITI buildings. Sources said that though the centre has been highly liberal in providing financial aid to Jammu and Kashmir it depends on the state authorities and the Government whether they are able to show proper utilisation of these funds or simply indulge in misappropriation.
