| State shuttlers to compete in World Championship | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 17: Two senior shuttlers of the state, Balbir Singh Jamwal and Rahul Sharma have received the invitation for participation in the 5th Senior World Badminton Championship to be held at Richmond, Vancouver in Canada from August 20 to August 27.
Both these players were selected on the basis of their trials conducted by Badminton Association of India (BAI) at Hyderabad in May last.
About 300 entries were received from all over the country by BAI for the trial. Now, both these senior shuttlers from the state shall leave for the venue on August 17.
Earlier, Balbir Jamwal and Rahul Sharma represented India in the 2nd Senior World Badminton Championship held in Chinese Taipei in 2007, followed by their participation in the 4th Senior World Badminton Championships at Punta Umbaria, Spain in 2009.
It is pertinent to mention here that Rahul Sharma is a ten-time State Champion and is hopeful to get good results in the competition ahead.
