JKPCC concerned over power crises in Rajouri | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 17: MLC Ravinder Sharma, General Secretary & spokesperson JKPCC has expressed concern over the power crises in three tehsils of Nowshera, Sunderbani and Kalakote of Rajouri district. Sharma expressed his dismay that the 20 MVA transformer at Kalakote was highly overloaded during the past couple of years as the usual load of the area over the said transformer was over 35 MVA as against its capacity of 20 MVA. He said that this issue was repeatedly raised by him and other legislators of the area during the Board meetings and otherwise also to upgrade the Kalakote transformer. He said that he personally wrote to Chief Minister also last year seeking his intervention and help in the matter which was responded too also by the said office. Again a project report was formulated by the executive engineer STD-IV Kalakote on 08th July 2010 in consultation MLA Nowshera for lying a ring line from 3.15 MVA relay station Dhanwan to 6.3 MVA relay station Rajal (Nowshera-II) for more liable power to the area and to avoid overloading of 20 MVA, 132/33 KVA Grid Station Kalakote. The said report was taken up in the Board meeting also and presented to the government for early action. However, he regretted that the genuine demand was not met as result the people of the area are highly agitated and expressing their resentment. Sharma said that in view of power situation prevailing in the area and following his request as well as legislators of the area a meeting of senior officers of power department was also convened at Jammu under the chairmanship of MOS power Shabir Ahmed Khan this month where problem was discussed threadbare and it was urged to the government to take immediate necessary short term measures to improve the power crises in the area which was facing 14-15 power cut as a matter of routine. Now when the transformer has totally been damaged due to lightning as stated by the department of Power, the three tehsils ( Sunderbani, Nowshera and Kalakote) are without electricity for last one week in the scorching heat and the water supply has also been effected. Sharma strongly urged the Chief Minister to personally intervene and direct the department to arrange transformer of required capacity at 132/33 KVA Grid Station Kalakote and restore the power supply to the area immediately. He has also faxed a written letter to the Chief Minister seeking his immediate attention and intervention. He said that senior officials of the department have assured to restore supply with next two days. However, he demanded that capacity of the transformer should be upgraded as per requirement. Sharma expressed his full sympathy and support to the people of these areas who are facing great hardships in the hard summer.
