Yatris reaching here feel misled by Niyas, VHP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 17: Shri Amarnath Yatri Niyas and other Hindu organizations have drawn a flake for their failure in organizing the holy Amarnath yatra from June 14 to have the first darshan at holy cave on Jesht Purnima falling on June 15. Criticizing the decision of Niyas to change the programme at eleventh hour the leaders of various social and political organizations have accused it of betraying the yatris and people of Jammu. Hundreds of yatris had reached here from outside the state on the call of the Hindu orgnasiations to particpaite in the holy yatra from June 14 and they were caught with surprise after the Niyas suddenly withdrew its earlier stand and compromised with Board and Government on yatra date and duration. This is totally unfortunate said Mohan partap, a yatri from nasik Maharashtra, who along with his family had come to have the darshan of Swami Amarnath for the first time. ``After reaching ehre we were informed that the yatra will not proceed before June 29 the official date. Now we have no alternative except to return as we could not stay for 15 days here to wait for the start of yatra’’, he added. Same were the views of Ram Kesar from Gorkhpur district of UP. He said if they had no courage and guts to start the yatra on Jesht Purnima then why they misled the people across the country saying that yatra will take place from June 15 as per tradition. Hundreds of yatris have reached here and some are on their way. They will be totally puzzled after reaching here as there is also no communication from Government that yatra will not be allowed to proceed before June 29, he added. Kesar said that the Government should through print and electronic media announce that yatra will not go before June 29 so that the people get correct information about its date and duration. Otherwise they will be put to lot of trouble after reaching here, he added. The Sadhus who have already reached here from different parts of country have also expressed their ire against the Niyas and VHP and accused the two organizations of misleading them. They alleged that they were invited to participate in Jalabhishekh on June 13 with this assurance that the yatra will leave for darshan on June 14 morning from Jammu. But later they changed the programme after sending two leaders of Niyas for Pratham darshan without taking the Sadhus into confidence. This is a serious issue, they added. The Niyas and VHP which were advocating for starting the yatra from traditional date on Jesht Purnima at all costs had started the registration of pilgrims on its own parallel to one started by Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB). It rejected the Government’s plea that yatra could not be taken before June 29 in view of rough and hostile weather conditions to holy cave from Pahalgam and Baltal tracks. Even it relented to proceed to holy cave on June 11 from Srinagar for survey of track accusing the board and government of backtracking its promises. However next day it reached an agreement with Government agreeing to send a team to holy cave on June 15 for pratham poojan some where near the cave. Later pooja was performed at Panjtarni by representatives of Board and Niyas.
This evoked a strong resentment from the Sadhus who had reached here from different parts of country for participation in Amarnath yatra.
