E-PDS in J&K shortly: Akhoon | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jun 17: Central Government will consider funding to the state for computerization of Public Distribution System (PDS) for IT based distribution and management of food grains. Assurance to this effect was given by the Union Secretary of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, B. C. Gupta to the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Qamar Ali Akhoon while reviewing the stock position of food grains in the state at a meeting this afternoon. The Minister enjoined upon the centre to sanction additional food grains quota for Kashmiri migrants, floating population of Gujjars and Bakerwals, for festivals and APL population. He said that the state requires allocation of additional monthly ration to the tune of 737 mts rice, 254 mts of wheat and 68mts of sugar for the migrants at APL rates whereas six monthly requirement of food grains for nomadic families is 3564 mts. He said the state faces a shortfall of about 5500 mts for the APL category to meet the requirement of registered population of 2001 census. He urged for releasing foodgrian quota on the basis of latest census 2010-11. Akhoon also sought central assistance for raising additional storage facilities at the block level and suggested transportation of ration from Food Corporation of India (FCI) exclusively through railway rakes, which he said would to a great extent check pilferage of food grains during transaction. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, CA&PD Pradeep Gupta, Executive Director FCI (North) P. K. Pujari, Directors CA&PD Kashmir and Jammu Abdul Wahid Tak and Parveez Ahmad Malik respectively, Special Secretary Javid Ahmad Khan and other senior officers of FCI and CA&PD.
