Anti- flood measures discussed at Kathua

KATHUA, Jun 17: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kathua Zahida Khan discussed implementation of anti flood measures in a meeting convened at conference hall of DC office Kathua today.
Zahida Khan outlined the importance of inter departmental coordination in dealing with any emergency caused during monsoon season. She emphasized the need of every one associated in the task of implementation of anti flood measures to work with dedication and sincerity so that the life and property of inhabitants of flood prone areas is safe guarded.
It is worth mentioning here that there are four main rivers namely Ujh, Ravi, Naj and Bhini and 230 local nallahas where in medium to major floods are expected. DDC directed to constitute flood protection coordination committees headed by respective Tehsildars to monitor the flood protection arrangements. Committees would function as crisis management group.
It was decided that control rooms would be established at vulnerable places to monitor the behavior of the floods. An Observatory post will be set up near Moonlight cinema for Kathua khad and a control room will be established at district Police Lines, Kathua to transmit information regarding behavior of floods.
The DDC directed the Executive Engineer Flood Control, Division Kathua to frame a roaster of flood duty chart to monitor the behavior of rivers and nallahas and communicating the flood messages to the main control room. Army was requested to help the district administration during any exigency
Wireless sets along with the staff and camp equipment will be provided by SSP, Kathua for the observatory posts at Panjtirthi, Billawar, Jakhole, Ujh barrage, Police Station Rajbagh, Mukundpur, Kore punoo, Keerian Gandayal and Beril island Billawar. Services of Police and Army Jawans and para military forces will be kept in readiness for meeting any exigency. The army was requested to provide one dozer/ JCB, Tents etc to flood control Division, Kathua.
It was decided that in case of evacuation, the evacuated people will be accommodated in HSSs, Degree colleges, Panchayats Ghars.
Additional District Development Commissioner Kathua, M.S. Sheikh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria, SE, Hydraulic, SDM, Billawar, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Development, Chief Education Officer, Chief medical Officer, Executive Engineers of Irrigation, PWD(R&B), PDD, PHE, officers from Police, Army, CRPF, Tehsildars, BDOs and other district officers were present in the meeting.
