190th Raj Tilak Divas of Maharaja Gulab Singh observed

JAMMU, JUNE 17 - To mark the celebrations of 190th Raj Tilak Divas of Maharaja Gulab Singh, an impressive function was organized at the right bank of river Chenab (Jia Pota) in Akhnoor today. Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab solemnized coronation to Raja Gulab Singh as Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir at Jia Pota on June 17, 1822.
The function was organized by the Maharaja Gulab Singh Raj Tilak Celebrations Committee, Akhnoor. Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest on the occasion. Paying rich tributes to Maharaja Gulab Singh on this auspicious occasion, Sham Lal Sharma said that contribution of Maharaja for the State is incomparable in coming times and described him as a visionary, brave and great human being who provided justice to all and treated the public as his own family members.
His memories shall remain evergreen in the minds of every person of this state with great honour, the Minister maintained. Earlier, Sham laid foundation stone of vented causeway on multibox of 17m span at Chandian near Chenab River to be constructed by PWD at an estimated cost of Rs.55.40 lakh with in stipulated time frame.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham said that faster development of Akhnoor town is because of the priority accorded in the policy planning. Various schemes in the sector of R&B, PHE, PWD, health, Tourism and Education have been initiated to achieve balanced development of the town, he apprised.
Describing public utilities essential ingredient in the development process, the Minister said that the co-relation of various schemes under different department is imperative to redress developmental needs of the growing population of the town. He said a comprehensive plan for development of right Bank of River Chenab is under the active considerations.
Vice Chairmans, Kissan Welfare Board and OBC also addressed gathering. Vice Chairman, Kissan Welfare Board, Rash Paul Singh, Vice Chairman, OBC, Kuldeep Raj Verma, Director, Horticulture, Jammu, J. L. Sharma, Director Floriculture, K. K. Sharma, SDM, Akhnoor, CMO, Jammu, President Rajput Sabha, Narayan Singh, Artist from National Museum Delhi, J. C. Grover, President, Brahaman Pratinidhi Sabha, Ved Parkash Sharma and Brig. (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal were present on the occasion.
