Khoda says militancy incidents down by 50% | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 18 (KNS): Claiming that militancy related incidents had gone down by 50 percent in Kashmir, Director Kuldeep Khoda, Saturday, said that former militants were increasing being used to carry out crime related incidents. “The militancy incidents in the Valley have come down to 50 percent. However, crime cases have increased in Kashmir off late and involvement of former militants in these cases is a worrying factor,” Khoda told media persons on the sidelines of a function here. “There are apprehensions that some of them are used by some groups to carry out criminal activities. Hundreds of weapons have proliferated to these elements. Government is running vocation training centers to rehabilitate former militants,” he added. The DGP said that former militants were being used to settle personal rifts. “In the recent incidents of some killings, former militants had been hired to carry out the killings,” he added. He evaded answer to a question regarding infiltration from across the LoC. “Whatever you hear from media that is enough. I can’t comment on it,” he said. He said forces should cause minimum inconvenience to the general public while dealing with security issues. Asked what action was taken against the cops involved in human rights violations, he said, “We will take cognizance of all human rights violations. Action is taken on each recommendation whether it comes from NHRC, SHRC or any other agency.” (KNS)
