Police Martyrs’ football tourney to start form June 22 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 18 (KNS): The 13th edition of the Police Martyrs’ Memorial football tournament will start here from June 22 and 48 local as well as outside teams are expected to participate in it. “A record number of 48 teams are participating in this year edition of police martyrs memorial tournament which will be played on knock out basis at two prominent venues of the valley - the Polo Ground and Bakshi Stadium,” Director General Police, Kuldeep Khoda told reporters here. He said the tournament will provide an opportunity to budding players to showcase their talent. “We will be looking out for outstanding young talent during the tournament and sponsor their training at a reputed coaching centre outside the state,” he said. Besides 42 local teams, Railway Coach Factory Kapurthala, West Bengal, Punjab Police, Uttarakhand Police and CRPF XI are among the prominent teams from outside the state taking part in the tournament this year. The tournament is being organized every year by the J&K Police in memory of Inspector Musthaq Ahmad, who was killed in car blast attack at Regal Chowk here on October 31, 1997. The JKFA President, Zamir Thakur, told KNS that all arrangements for conducting the tournament successfully have been made.
