| 23 shops booked for selling poor quality food | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 18: A team of health officials from Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today booked 23 shop owners for selling sub-standard food items in the city. About 50 Kgs of sweets, stale cooked food, ice cream and about 5 Kgs of cut fruit which were not fit for human consumption were destroyed on spot. A team under the supervision of Commissioner, JMC S.C Sawhney comprised of Health Officer and Food inspectors checked 120 shops out of which these were found to be selling poor quality of the food. They have been booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 and an amount of Rs. 4500 was charged as fine from the defaulters. During the checking the team raided shops selling milk and milk products, restaurants, fruit juice shops, tea stalls, sweet and bakery shops and meat and chicken shops situated in Prem Nagar, Gujjar Nagar, Railway area and Narwal.
Further, all the food establishment owners are strictly warned to adhere to the terms and conditions of PFA licenses and keep their premises neat and clean for ensuring supply of pure & good quality of food items to the customers.
