Dogri Sanstha pays tribute to novelist Madan Mohan Sharma | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 18: Dogri Sanstha has expressed its deep grief on the sad demise of prominent Dogri short story writer, playwright and novelist Prof. Madan Mohan Sharma who breathed his last on June 17 at Jammu.
An emergency meeting of Sanstha was held today to condole the death of veteran writer and one of the makers of modern Dogri short story.
The prominent writers and members of working committee of Sanstha recounted the colossal contribution of Madan Mohan in the development of modern short story style in the language.
Paying tributes to the departed writer Prof. Lalit Mangotra , the president of Dogri Sanstha said Madan Mohan had mastered the art of creating situations and life like characters in his stories. “His subtle and sublime expressions bestowed depth and breadth to the flowing stream of Dogri short story and he would always live as long as Dogri literature exists”, he said.
Speakers expressed that his stories are characterized by deep humanism, a keen observation of contemporary social reality, psychological insight into human character and behaviour in powerful and effective use of language.
Prof Madan Mohan Sharma, who inspired two generations of writers and authored novels, short-story collections and radio plays in Dogri. He was awarded by the Sahitya Akademi in 1974 for his anthology of short stories entitled ‘Dudh Lahoo Zahar’ and again by the Jammu & Kashmir Sahitya Academy in 1976. He wrote many memorable radio plays for Radio Kashmir Jammu. His play ‘Banjar’ was awarded at national level.
