FCI CC members demand CBI probe into bungling | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 18: Members of the consultative committee of the Food Corporation of India have demanded CBI probe into the bungling in the FCI and CAPD departments, J&K state so that culprits are brought to book and consumers get quality food grains. In a joint statement the members of the consultative committee charged that there is nexus between FCI –CAPD officials as well as contractors involved in loading , unloading and transportation of food grains and the millers which is required to be broken to save the Govt exchequer from being looted. They expressed their concern that despite the consultative committee for J&K like other states having been constituted in Oct 2009 under the chairmanship of MP Madan Lal Sharma, but till date no meeting has been convened so far which could have otherwise curbed these bungling. The committee members further said that in spite of the pressure on the Regional manager and the chairman to conduct quarterly meeting under rule, both of them did not hold a single meeting reasons known to them only. Under rule the committee has to meet quarterly to see the working of FCI visits to godowns throughout the state and check the quality of food ,sugar supplied by the FCI to the state. These members made it clear that if the consultative committee of FCI is not convened within fortnight they would resign from the committee enmass. The members have also written to the Food Minister of India who has constituted this committee. The members who issued the joint statement include J A Khan, Sham Singh, Gulab Chand Bhagat, Bansi Lal Sodhi and Rajesh Dutt.
