PNB to focus on SHGs, tourism, dairy sectors in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 18 (PTI) Punjab National Bank (PNB) today said it will focus on the economic activities of Self Help Groups (SHGs), tourism, agriculture and dairy sectors. "PNB has presence in 20 out of 22 districts (in J&K). We are focusing on and will support dairy schemes, SHGs for empowerment of women, tourism sector and agriculture in the state", PNB Chairman and Managing Director R K Kamath told reporters here. The bank already has saving fund linked 291 SHGs in Jammu circle, out of which credit linkage has been done in 261 cases, he added. So far, 68,000 accounts have been opened, while 567 Grameen Credit Cards (GCCs) have been issued under financial inclusion, Kamath said, adding that the bank has also opened 17,500 accounts in 101 villages of six blocks under Urban Financial Inclusion Project (UFIP). "More than 25 business correspondents are working for this project in J&K and 35 unbanked villages with a population of 2,000 and above have been allotted to our bank in Jammu circle," he said. Under Jammu circle office, bank has 85 branches, out of which 36 are in rural areas, 19 branches in semi-urban areas and 30 branches are in urban areas, he informed. Similarly, to provide "anywhere, any time" banking services, PNB has established 64 ATMs in Jammu, besides providing free Internet banking, he added. .
