9 defaulters fined Rs 40,000 for less weighment

JAMMU, NOV 23
A team of officers of Legal Metrology Department led by Assistant Controller under the supervision of Additional Secretary CAPD Mr J L Bhagat conducted extensive checking in various pockets Jammu area.
Acting on the complaint of less weighment in petroleum products, foodgrains, edible oils and sweets. The team booked 9 defaulters under Weights and Measures Act and Package Commodity Rules for less weighment. The two dispensing units, one k oil depot, one edible co., one gas agency, two foodgrain units and one sweet seller were booked under section 39/2 for less weighment and a fine of Rs.40,000 was imposed and recovered from the 9 defaulters.
The department has till date recovered Rs.4, 52, 000 from the defaulters during the current financial year in Jammu district only under various sections of Act and rules of the department.
Traders have been warned to desist from the practices of cheating consumers otherwise strict action as warranted under Act will be initiated against such unscrupulous elements.
