Corruption rampant in J&K, Omar sleeping: PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 18: Expressing concern over rampant corruption in the State during the last two and half years, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) observed that the Jammu and Kashmir has become an epic centre of corruption due to the mis-goverance and mis-deeds of the present dispensation headed by the National Conference in the State. Addressing a press conference spokesperson Rangil Singh said that while as civil society in the country has launched a rigorous campaign for the constitution of Lok Pal, there is need in the state to strengthen the democratic institutions to keep a check on corruption. It is unfortunate that present regime headed by Omar Abdullah has not only failed to check corruption, it has rather legitimized the corruption by deliberately making the institutions, which are helpful to curb corruption, as defunct as part of its game plan. Party observed that since formation of present regime headed by Omar Abdullah there is no transparency and accountability in the administration because the present dispensation is not interested in strengthening such institutions which are helpful to keep a check on the corruption. Failure of the state government to make the State Accountability Commission as functional reflects its casual approach in dealing corruption. PDP observed that The State Accountability Commission, which was constituted during the PDP-Congress regime to check corruption, has become defunct as government is not interested in making it functional. During the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, State Accountability Commission had taken effective steps to expose corrupt politicians as well as bureaucrats. PDP is of the opinion that State Government is not interest of making such institutional functional as this regime has been deep neck involved in corruption. The claims of government to setup State Vigilance Commission also remained only on papers. No concerted step has been taken to set up Vigilance Commission. Our party observed that appointment of the Information Commissioners was made all due to the efforts of PDP but despite appointment of the Information Commissioner, government has been adopting delay tactics to appoint other members to make the Right to Information Commission functional in the State. Right to Information has brought revolution but in this region the ruling party is not interested to make it functional. The present government is deep necked involved in corruption as it has legitimized corrupt practices at the higher level.
