Jammu Nov 23 Expressing their satisfaction and gratitude towards the initiative taken by the chief minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad, in solving the burning problems of the Transporters, Anil Chopra, chairman, Minibus workers Union, said in a press conference, in Jammu today, that no Chief Minister apart from Azad, has ever taken the meeting of the transporters to listen their genuine problems and at the same time to try to solve their demands. He further said that we are also thankful to the Hon’ble High Court for giving some relief to the transporters, he added. He further said that Azad has given us the assurance to introduce new Transport Policy up to the month of January to overcome the problems and difficulties faced by the transporters in the state. As we know our state is facing the menace of terrorism from the last 17 years and transporters also remain affected by this turmoil ,this industry also demand relief package for transporters who had suffered heavy losses ,he added. Tourism is the big industry in the state so directly or indirectly ,transport industry is connected with it ,and even during the peak of militancy ,these transporters without taking care of their life ,were responsible in delivering the goods, Essential commodities, petrol, Diesel, and other materials to the valley and some of them even were kidnapped and killed, but in spite of all this ,Transporters kept the flag high, he added. He further said that no proper matador ,Auto, Taxi and even bus stands are not available as well as no proper parking space is provided and hope that this Govt. will do some thing concrete for the interests of transporters. If the demands and the assurances were not met in the stipulated time, we will resort to other means, he added. Others who were present include R. P.
